Good food should be part of everyday life, and the people making it should have a chance to thrive. SmallChainFoods carries Chyve's community-benefit purpose beyond software and toward the places where food is grown, made and shared.
Potential initiatives
Practical ways to make a difference.
A meal can meet an immediate need. Access to a kitchen, equipment or useful knowledge can help someone build a livelihood. These are some of the possibilities SmallChainFoods is exploring for local food communities.
Dignified food access
Locally purchased pantry food or pay-it-forward meals could connect people who need good food with the Food Vendors making it nearby. The starting principle is dignity: thoughtful food, made locally, with care for the person receiving it and the people doing the work.
Room to build a livelihood
Equipment assistance, shared-kitchen access or practical food-business education could help an aspiring Food Vendor take a next step. The aim is to make more room for local skill and enterprise, with support shaped around the real needs of people growing or making food.
Stronger places to grow
Community gardens, school projects and local sourcing efforts are other possibilities. They could bring people together around useful work, shared knowledge and a more resilient food community. What takes shape should follow the needs of a place, rather than a fixed program imposed everywhere.
People and place

A community is made of growers, cooks, customers, neighbors, teachers and the places that bring them together. SmallChainFoods starts with local knowledge and people choosing to take part.
Local-first does not mean local-exclusive. Useful ideas can come from many places and work at different scales. What matters is helping people and strengthening local food opportunity.

Food Operations helps Food Vendors do their work today. Through SmallChainFoods, we want to help that progress reach further into the communities around them—better access to good food, more opportunities to build a livelihood around it, and stronger local food communities. We'll share the first projects as they take shape.
